Following 20 yrs of service on posts within the southwest, the regiment, now under the command of Colonel John K. Mizner, was transferred for the Division of Dakota in 1891[8] The regiment served at a variety of posts in Montana and Dakotas until eventually 1898.The regiment was trained as being a fight unit but afterwards relegated to non-battle r
